                   A new illustrated fantasy-adventure novel series for
                      young people and adults who are young at heart!

Four boys --- Colin Sinclair, Reginald "Reggie" Spencer III, Ollie Steele and Timmy Shannon --- discover on their twelfth birthday that they are exiles from the Plane of Imaginings, the place where dreams and nightmares come from.  The boys were exiled to Earth before they were born to finalize a treaty that ended a devastating war between Duncan, capitol of the Realm of Dreams, and Algol, first city of the Land of Nightmares.  Peace will reign in the Plane of Imaginings so long as no exile steps foot in Duncan.  But Ba, Algol's ambassador to Duncan, wants to start the war again for his own secret reasons and will do anything to trick or coerce the boys to return to Duncan.

In THE KNIGHTMARE KNIFE, Colin, Reggie, Ollie and Timmy survive inexplicable and nightmarish attacks before being transported to the POI.  There a stranger named Pratt leads the boys to a cottage, Culver House, on a moor called Ives Horizon where he lives with his 12-year-old daughter, Jennifer, the fifth exile.  Pratt and Jennifer tell the boys about the war between Duncan and Algol, about the children's exile, and about Ba's desire to start the war again.  Pratt also explains that the boys must each find his own talisman, powerful magical objects that can protect the exiles from Ba as well as guide the exiles to a great destiny --- if each one can master their talisman.  For example, in THE KNIGHTMARE KNIFE, Colin's talisman turns out to be a knife from the Realm of Nightmares that assaults his mind with terrible images each time he draws it.  These images include the recent murder of Colin's father by a mugger with a knife.
