COMICS TO FILM

M.Night Shyamalan (Sixth Sense, Unbreakable), noted comic book fan,  on his belief that comic books provide a great foundation for a film:

---"the mileu of comic books offers great opportunities ..."

Comics have had great success in film and television. The following are just some of the recent and upcoming successes of comics in translation to the big and little screen:

  • HELLBOY
  • HULK
  • MEN IN BLACK
  • MYSTERY MEN
  • ROAD TO PERDITION
  • ROCKETEER
  • SPAWN
  • SPIDERMAN
  • SUPERMAN
  • SWAMP THING
  • TEENAGE MUTANT TURTLES
  • THE CROW
  • THE MASK
  • TICK
  • WITCHBLADE
  • X-MEN

Although Caliber introduced 100’s of creators and properties into the comics market, in the earlier days, we didn’t own everythng we published, so even though they were properties published by Caliber, not all of them were owned or controlled by Caliber. But we did introduce them. The most successful was The Crow. Kabuki is scheduled to come out from Fox in 2002. G-Men from Hell, based on the Caliber comic, Grafik Muzik, is near a release date. A Killing Frost (based on the Caliber comic, Frost) is near completion. Robert Rodriguez is set to direct Madman who first appeared in the Caliber comic, Creatures of the ID. Deadworld, Jinx, AKA Goldfish, Searchers, and Inferno have had or currently have options. Ghost Warrior is a newly created property and co-owned with a production company and three additional properties are currently in negotiations.

Again, although we didn't own all of the properties, we did introduce them and it proves that the management of Caliber has a great track record in recognizing desirable properties for both comics and films.
