It was
claimed by many that he was a Healer...someone with the power to cure diseases, broken
bones, and even genetic disorders.
To some, he was a gift from God, to others, he was a hoax.
To the U.S. Government, he was a rat
a white rat
to be tested, probed, and
explored.
The Healer is a dramatic story with some
supernatural overtones. It features a man who heals. He does not do it for
fame or fortune but to spread his ability to help the unfortunate.
When an investigative team is sent to explore the validity
of the man's healing powers, they expect a hoax. After a while, they're not sure any
more. Can someone like this actually exist?
Knowing that the Healer is going to be taken away for
testing, the detective team decide to help the Healer escape. Heading out onto a
journey with no ending in sight, they still feel compelled to carry out the task.
The Healer has spent most of his years healing.
As he travels about with the couple, he renews his interest in the life that
surrounds him and begins to appreciate the small things that matter. And it is
through this self discovery, that he begins to understand why it is people will fight to
go on living
Brief Description: A
drama with supernatural overtones about a Healer who is led on a path of self discovery in
understanding what life is really all about.
Key Elements: Although it has a
supernatural element, it is primarily a drama...in the same way that Stephen King's Green
Mile is. The primary focus is on the appreciation of life.
Association: Dramatic film in the vein
of Green Mile, Eve's Bayou (with the fortune telling aunt), and dramatic sensibilities of
films such as Spitfire Grill or Fried Green Tomatoes.
Format: The Healer is designed to be a
single story as it has a beginning, middle, and end. The Healer originally appeared
as a single issue within the pages of Raven Chronicles but it is a story that can be
expanded to a self contained piece. The focus is on the Healer discovering during his
"kidnapped" travels why the people come to him want to stay alive so much. He
learns to appreciate life which he can give and develops an understanding of what the
beauty of life is all about.
