SEARCHERS

Before there was the golden age of film or the silver age of television, there was the age of stories...stories by some of the greatest writers of Western Civilization. They brought tales of adventure, space exploration, and the farthest reaches of the unknown. But what if their imagination was more than just brilliant thoughts...what if it were real?

In the winter of 1896, H.G. Wells, Jules Verne, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, H.R. Ryder Haggard, and Edgar Rice Burroughs wrote of something so fantastic and unthinkable, that no publisher would have entertained its submission.

A century later, real-life descendants of their greatest characters must band together in a mutual quest for not only their own survival but that of reality itself. But how can that be? Aren’t they all just fictional characters?

Searchers. An epic tale of adventure that delves into reality and imagination...at the same time.

OUTLINE

Prologue

British Museum, 1896.

A man walks across the park before a guard lets him in a side door. As the guard leads him into the room, the guard compliments the man on his last book. Although his missus didn’t like it, the guard says that only men can understand such concepts as time travel.

As the man enters, he sees a room of other men. It is apparent they all know some of each other but not all. None of them seemed pleased to be there. A bit of bickering as they ridicule each other’s writings before they are interrupted by a man who introduces himself as CHARLES FORT. Fort was the infamous writer who was the first to scientifically investigate claims of the paranormal. (Note: The Fortean Times is named after him).

Fort introduces the men to each other and tells of their writings as well. There are: H.G. WELLS (Invisible Man, Around the World in 80 Days, Island of Dr. Moreau), Jules Verne (Journey to the Center of the Earth, 20,000 Leagues under the Sea), Edgar Rice Burroughs (Tarzan, John Carter- Warlord of Mars), H. Ryder Haggard (She, King Solomon’s Mines), and Arthur Conan Doyle (Sherlock Holmes, Professor Challenger).

Fort tells them that they were called here because of an important matter...the mysterious and oft-rumored Book of the Khazars has been found. It was created by the ancient and legendary empire of the Khazars and was supposed to have been created, not from ink, but from the very dreams of the Khazar people. It was believed however, that the people didn’t actually exist and the book itself gave them a sense of reality.

There is a sense of outrage from the authors for this apparent waste of time. Fort is surprised and says that "We" thought they would be interested and some of the authors want to know who the "WE" are. Fort inadvertently opens the book and...

...coming down the hallway is a giant metallic fish with the name NAUTILUS etched in its side...from a window, an African warrior leaps though...in front of Doyle is Sherlock Holmes as the great and glowing Baskerville Hound lunges at him...small dinosaurs jump through the room...a beautiful she-goddess caresses Haggard seductively...half-human/half-beasts tear at each other in the room...and Wells looks outside to see a giant Martian war machine crashing through the streets of London. It is sheer pandemonium.

Suddenly, it all ends when Fort slams the book shut. Bursting in the room are three men dressed in black overcoats and black top hats with a banner of M.I.P. etched on armbands. Silently, they take the book and put it in a chest and leave as quickly as they came in. All of the authors, including Fort, are stunned. Doyle wonders if they all saw the same vision or only their own personal ones. As the scene closes, Verne says that one thing is common...they all have seen the shape of things to come.

End of Prologue.

Modern Day England.

Rain obscures a nondescript building that is in the middle of nowhere. Inside, THE MINISTRY MAN is toweling himself off after an exercise session. In front of him is a heavyset man named GEORGE. Ministry Man is asking why George wants to leave. George states that he knows what is going to happen and he can’t be a part of it. George warns that they are screwing around with reality...and it will have repercussions. Ministry Man just smiles. "I know. I’m looking at one."

George continues about leaving and Ministry Man says he can. He promises that there will be no mysterious "accidents" or the like. But, he warns, if George tries to stop them, he can promise George one thing...that his existence will end.

As George storms out, Ministry Man picks up the telephone to deliver a brief message. "He’s all yours."

George derives out of the heavily guarded complex. He goes up a few miles and gets out of his car. Hopping into a new vehicle, he pulls out a dead body and drags it to his car. He leaves in the new car as his previous car blows up.

George comes into his mansion. He talks on a cell phone to RYAN and asks how many are there. Ryan responds that there are four definites and another possible. George says he knew it. All that time and money wouldn’t go to waste. He tells Ryan to get to Barsoom and set it up. George begins to look at the information Ryan sent him.

Los Angeles. Kane Talgarth is driving down an LA freeway. Typical commuter...on the phone, coffee cup on the dash, donut rolling on his seat. He is opening his mail while he waits in traffic...again. His conversation covers his hobby as an archeologist and how it interferes with his work as a insurance company adjuster. He glances at the letter before going to the magazine which he quickly opens and turns sideways to check out the pin up of the month.

London. Geneva Walcot-Fogg is desperately trying to sleep off last night’s party. Even three pillows over her head can’t cover up the ringing of the doorbell. Finally, she storms to the door, takes the special delivery package and slams the door on the messenger. Glancing at the letter, she lets it fall to the floor before heading back to bed. It is 3:00 in the afternoon.

Ireland. An ancient sanatorium, Keady Hall Psychiatric Unit. Dr. John Hammett is yelling at his staff for the mis-treatment of patients. A ward delivers a special delivery for Hammett as he retreats to his study. He appears in pain. He grabs his bandaged arm as he is opening the letter. The pain is intense and he unwraps his arm. We see the letter as we look right through his arm...which is partially invisible...with a trace of veins, arteries, and muscles showing.

Hamburg, Germany. An older couple hold the letter in their hand. They are arguing over who should take the letter addressed to their tenant in the back. Finally, they both agree to do it together. They go to the cottage in the back. It is a mess...equipment is all over the place. As they are about to knock, the door opens and a giant walks out as Edwin Van Hardwig takes the letter. He laughs as he asks if they want to stay for coffee but the old couple are already running away...

Atlantic Ocean, off Iceland. An experimental oil-drilling platform floating on the sea as a helicopter leaves. The Ministry Man is being led by another man towards the center which when we look inside is a gigantic chamber. Encased in glass in the middle is the Book of Khazars. Ministry Man tells the other that they don’t have to worry about George any more...he had an unfortunate accident.

Quick shots of the four who received the letters. Each has opened the letter and is reading it. All have airline tickets with them except Genera’s of course as she lives in London.

Satellite in space and we see that Ryan is monitoring a satellite tracking screen. He sees something and excitedly calls George. Ryan says that it took some time but he’s finally found her. He’ll see if he can convince her to join them. George says that with the others, perhaps she will come out of hiding. Ryan just says, he’ll try.

Quick shots of Heathrow Airport as the three ticket holders are arriving. As they enter and go through customs, they pass each other but have no recognition. Inside the Heathrow security, we see their faces on the cameras as the watcher plays with a key ring marked with the letters "MIP" on it.

Geneva is led into the meeting place...the British Museum...the very same room where a meeting was held some 100 years ago. As she enters, the other three are already there.

George enters and begins to tell them what everything is about. They were all given excerpts of diaries from the famous H.G. Wells and Jules Verne and George tells them about the Book of Khazars and he reveals the secret organization of the MIP...or the Ministry of Incredible Phenomena...an ultra private branch of the government that seemingly answers to no one.

As the group argues, Hammett especially so, George claims that the members here have famous relatives...Kane’s is Captain Nemo from 20,000 Leagues under the Sea, Geneva’s is Phileas Fogg from Around the World in 80 Days, Edwin is a descendant of Professor Van Hardwigge from Journey to the Center of the Earth, and John’s real name isn’t Hammett....it’s Griffin which is the same name as his ancestor who was also known as the Invisible Man.

As Geneva exclaims how silly the notion is and that none of them really ever existed...a voice rings out...

..."Wrong!" standing before them is a beautiful raven-haired woman who introduces herself as MORIARTY. George wants to know who she is but she explains that she too has a diary but its not from Verne or Wells...hers is from Doyle. George sits down, stunned. "Professor Moriarty from the Sherlock Holmes stories...you’re his---" Moriarty cuts him off. She says that she has been involved in this for a long time and if the others want to find out about their own lives, they should listen to George. The other look around and there is a general agreement that their lives are surely lacking in some areas.

On the Iceland oil rigger, a Navy officer is discussing vehemently with the Ministry Man about his assignment. He wants to know why he has to quarantine a 100-mile diameter around the rig. The Ministry Man asks if the commander knows about Greek Mythology and explains about Pandora’s Box which when opened, let out all of mankind’s evils. Show the Book of Khazars, the voiceover of the Ministry Man says that he doesn’t want to be sitting on top of it when it happens again.

George continues to explain about the theory. He explains that the Book when it was opened some 100 years ago, sucked out some of the creative energies of the writers in the room. The MIP however, opened the book again and some of the energies escaped to become reality.

In the Atlantic Ocean, the Ministry man is on a ship looking at the oil rigger. A countdown begins. Ten.

George asks them about their lives and they all have to admit that something is missing. NINE. George says that each of them have special abilities that may not have manifested themselves but they will. Eight. And each will need the others to fill the vacuum that exists in their lives. SEVEN Hammett rolls down the sleeve over his bandaged arm. SIX. Moriarty agrees readily with George and says that they have to work together. FIVE. Hammett grabs his head...very uncomfortable. FOUR. He decides to leave as George tries to stop him. THREE. George says he won’t let him leave and Hammett pulls out a knife. TWO. "Who’s going to stop me?" ONE.

At the oil rigger, from the center where the Book is, lights shoot out as the Book is opened.

Back in the British Museum, all of the group grab their heads in pain as if they were electrocuted. Blood comes from their mouths and noses and they all fall unconscious, including George.

Groom Lake, Nevada. Tom Eden is yelling at his wife for taping over his favorite movie, Master of the World. She tries to explain that he has it on over 20 tapes already. He doesn’t care and throws the tape at her and is obviously near to killing her. Suddenly, he seizes his head as if shocked. Blood pours from his nose as he falls to the ground.

At the oil rigger, Ministry Man is landing on the deck with a helicopter. He is watching the Book of Khazars. He is pleasantly surprised. He tells his assistant that it was only opened for less than a second and the incredible energy expended. Imagine if they could harness that.

As the group comes to, George explains that the Book must have been opened. George asks them all if the year 1977 means anything and each mentions that their fathers died that year. George confirms that it was the existence of them (the fathers) that ended, however each of them was already born so they continued. That was the last time the book was opened...until now.

Eden comes to. His wife tries to comfort him and she doesn’t know what is happening to him. He pushes her away as he storms out of the house. He lives on an Air Force base and walks towards the hangars. Two pilots talk to him as he walks by. They whisper behind his back about how crazy he is but how he is the best pilot they have ever seen.

Eden gets dressed in his pilot’s outfit and passes through Authorized Personnel as he heads towards a jet fighter. He revs it up. The Control Tower tells Eden that he doesn’t have clearance but Tom is already heading down the runway. They repeatedly tell him that he can’t take off, but he does anyway. As they watch, Tom turns the jet back towards them and sets off two missiles which blow up the control tower.

Tom’s wife is on the phone. No, she doesn’t know what’s up with Tom. Suddenly, the house blows up and we pan to Tom’s jet reaching into the skies.

George tells the others that the MIP has control of the Book and they think they can control but he knows that they can’t. They have to find a way to stop them. He tells them where the Book is but they can’t attempt to fly there as they’ll be shot down. They have to do it another way. When asked how, George says he has a way but first they have to travel to the Arctic. He shows them on the map. But, George explains, that even in modern times, Arctic travel can be treacherous and he’ll have to find a way to get there.

Geneva looks at the map and reads off a way of getting there. She sheepishly responds to the others’ curious looks about how she just knows about weather conditions and travelling. George smiles at her and says "Just like Phileas". George tells them that they will stay at his mansion and that they should be ready to leave tomorrow.

1942. The Battle of Arnhem in Holland. A British soldier is fighting in World War II when he finds himself surrounded by Germans. They point and shoot at him when suddenly a vortex opens up behind him and a hand reaches out and grabs him, pulling him into the vortex. The Germans looks around, not sure what they just saw.

The same soldier in an easy chair as he wakes up. A well-dressed man stands before him and offers him a brandy sniffer. The soldier asks where is he and the man, known at the Time Traveler corrects him. It’s not where...but when is he.

The Ministry Man is on the oil rigger as the jet that Tom Eden stole is coming in for a landing on a platform next to it. An aide next to the Ministry Man says that there is no way he can land on that. Ministry Man says that he’s never seen Tom Eden fly and he’s never seen a jet plane like the one that Tom flies...called The Terror. The jet comes in for a landing, speeding along the platform before the jet hooks on the cable which stops it abruptly. A makeshift aircraft carrier. Ministry Man just smiles. Another aide comes up running and says that they got a report. He’s still alive. The body in the car wasn’t him. Now the Ministry Man is no longer smiling and admits that he should’ve paid more attention to the others.

Hammett is in the library of George as George comes in. It is very late. Hammett apologizes but George says its okay, books are meant to be looked at. Hammett says he’s sorry for his outburst earlier. As George grabs a book, Hammett tells George that he’s read Invisible Man before...a number of times. Now he knows why it was such a favorite of his...if all this nonsense is true. George just tells him it is. Hammett asks if George has read it. Of course. Hammett says that Griffin, his supposed ancestor was a mad man...the invisibility drove him mad. George says that doesn’t mean John will go mad. John holds up his invisible arm which is now his whole arm. With one, comes the other.

Kane looking out the window. He talks about how real can all of this be? He has trouble accepting it. He turns when the voice from his bed tells him how it was so easy to accept a beautiful woman asking him to spend the night. He turns and we see that it’s Moriarty in the bed. He says its not the same thing but she says it is...some people just take what’s thrown at them as life goes on...others, will make things happen. She wonders which one is he?

George is getting things ready in the morning, telling the others to hurry. Kane and Moriarty come in. Geneva just throws some stuff at them to carry and hopes that they weren’t hungry because they missed breakfast. No one is sure if she is jealous or just mad about the two not taking things seriously enough.

Traveling to the Arctic. First a plane, then boat, then dogsled caravan. At night, while huddled in a rough cabin, the five struggle to stay warm. They begin to question the sanity of the whole situation. Moriarty tells them that only be sticking together can they find the answers. Kane and Hammett begin questioning who George is and they all admit that they don’t have any idea of who he is. Moriarty just laughs. She digs into her knapsack and pulls out a book. She says that she has carried around a copy since she can remember because they both share a common creator. The others are confused and Moriarty tosses the book to Geneva who reads the title..."The Lost World" as she leaves the cabin. Oh, my god...Geneva cries out, "he’s Professor Challenger". The others have to explain to Edwin who Challenger is as he doesn’t read much.

Ministry Man is in the middle of exercising by fighting some men hand to hand when he is interrupted by an aide. Tom Eden just stands there, silently and impatient. Ministry Man reads the note and says that they’re in the arctic. He just got the trace and they’ll send a squad after them. Ministry Man takes his glee out on some unfortunate trainees while he talks to Eden about how Challenger would eventually lead them to the Time Traveler. Eden wants to know what they’re doing in the arctic. Ministry Man doesn’t seem worried but they’ll soon find out.

The Time Traveler leads the soldier through his magnificent palace which he calls the Palace of Green Porcelain. There are clocks everywhere of all kinds and all ages. The soldier is confused. The Time Traveler explains that the war has been over for quite some time. The soldier wants to know if he died and the Traveler tells him that to the world, yes, he died. Asking the soldier why he fought, the soldier says that it was to fight against an enemy of everything he knew. The traveler asks the soldier if he will be willing to fight a different war...against an enemy that could destroy everything that is...or was. The soldier is of course, confused. The traveler leads him to a large area outside and there in the garden like setting, are soldiers from all different time periods and all different nations...samurai, Roman Legionnaire, Viking, Spanish Conquistador, Mongol archer, and dozens of others.

Ryan is leading some men through some thick jungles. It seems to be an endless rain forest. He brings out his scanner and looks around. It has to be here. He looks at the scanner and heads deep into an overgrown section and starts slashing. The native accompanying him just shake their heads. Crazy foreigner. Suddenly, the growth parts and an opening reveals itself. Looking down, a waterfall leads into a rocky valley and signs of civilization are present. Ryan leads them in.

The group of Challenger’s is in a very remote part of the arctic. Challenger seems confused. It has to be here. He starts jabbing into the ice as if he were looking for something. The others think he must be losing it and wonder what he is doing. Challenger seems adamant about it when suddenly a deafening roar seemingly surrounds them. Confused the group looks around, expecting an avalanche or something when a black stalker helicopter pops up from behind a ridge. Menacing, it hovers...

The pilot inside radios to the men to remember, Challenger and Moriarty are to be taken alive. The others? They are not. Four men scale down the helicopter from ropes, each heavily armed with automatic weapons. The men begin to fire as they land and the group scatters. Hiding behind jagged ice rocks, the bullets ring out, echoing in the open area. Challenger yells out that the sound could break up the ice flow beneath them. Hammett is being chased by one of the men, barely avoiding the bullets. He turns the corner around a large, jagged rock and the man follows around. Hammett surprises the man by waiting there. A desperate fight but Hammett gets the gun away and shoots him.

Edwin falls to the ground as bullets ring around him. One of the men stops to check and see if he’s shot. Edwin isn’t. He pops up and grabs the man, his incredible strength breaking the man’s arm. With a single toss of his brute strength, he throws the man against a rock and the man crumples down, dead. As Edwin holds the gun in his two hands with anger, Kane runs towards him screaming no. Too late, Edwin breaks the gun in half across his knee. Kane yells at Edwin for eliminating the weapon. Now the last two men are upon them. Suddenly, Hammett arrives behind them and shoots both of them. As one of the men lies on the ground, Hammett continues to shoot until Geneva pulls him away.

The helicopter rears up firing bullets. Hammett with a maniacal laugh stands there and fires back at it as the others flee for cover. The copter makes a pass over and Hammett keeps firing until the gun is empty. The helicopter comes back and Hammett makes a mad dash across the ice. The copter follows. As Hammett is jumping over a small cliff, the helicopter fires a missile and the surrounding area explodes. Now the copter turns back towards the group.

As they are running with the helicopter right behind them, the ground under them starts to rise. It throws them all back and a large, metallic spear-like apparatus breaks through the ice. The helicopter is right above it when suddenly a crackling energy blast seems to radiate from all around. The helicopter electrifies before blowing up.

The group is stunned as the metallic shell rises high above the ice as it catapults from the frozen water beneath it. It plunges down onto the surface and Challenger yells out. "There it is...just as I knew it would be...it’s the NAUTILUS!"

Deep in the forest of Africa, Ryan is led to the ceremony center. The tribal people are all painted white with mud and everything seems to be of very ceremonic importance. He is forced to kneel in front of a dark cave with a single throne like chair in front of it. A chanting begins and Ryan wonders what they are saying when he realizes that it is "She" and then it dies out as a figure steps out from the darkness of the cave.

SHE steps out. A blonde, light skinned goddess (think of Ursula Andress) steps forward. To Ryan, she is the most beautiful woman he has ever seen and he can’t take his eyes off of her. She wears a single piece of cloth that barely covers her yet gives her a sense of beauty and royalty. She sits as the murmuring chant continues, only ending when she raises her hand.

SHE asks Ryan if he has come to take the girl away and Ryan can only nod his head. He is speechless. SHE signals and from the cave comes a dark haired girl with her head down. SHE asks Ryan if he knows what the girl is and again, Ryan can only nod. SHE stands up and the crowd of natives quickly drop to their knees. SHE tells Ryan that she has been expecting someone like him for the last 80 years or so and Ryan looks surprised. SHE says yes, she is that old but remains as youthful and vibrant as the land surrounding her. But she is tied to the land...her beauty and her very life would end if she were to ever leave.

The girl steps forward by command. SHE tells Ryan that it will be the girl’s choice and only her choice if she will go. She has a home here for as long as she wants. SHE asks the girl if she wants to go and the girl looks up...saying she has to. Her eyes are catlike as she looks at Ryan.

Inside the nautilus. Geneva is saddened by John’s death and feels the others should show more remorse.

Edwin is examining the equipment and Challenger realizes that Edwin has an affinity for machinery as Edwin innately knows how it operates. When Edwin presses a button, a giant gyroscope pops up and he explains to Geneva how it works…even though he has never seen one before. The others are surprised as there is no one on the ship...but how did it move? Challenger deduces that Kane has a mental bond with it and this is evidenced by Kane’s moving the ship with concentrated thought. Moriarty asks if there is a radio on board but Challenger says they have to maintain silence so they don’t give away their position. Moriarty just replies she knows, she was just asking. Unseen by any of them, on the floor leading to the lower level is bloodied drops.

The Time traveler is placing a wreath on a grave marked with Weena’s name. As he mentions the Green Palace, the soldier realizes who the traveler is…or who he thinks he is. He wonders why the Time Traveler is pretending to be the character from H.G. Well’s novel, The Time Machine. The Time Traveler explains his existence which he can’t even fathom but through his journeys through time, he has come to understand many things. But he can not go into the future because the Book of Khazars exists in this time period and he can not go further than the book’s existence. But if he had the book, and opened it towards the back, it would create the future for him as well. The soldier wants to know if he himself is anyone special, and the Time Traveler says no…just an anonymous face plucked from history…a man who is already dead. Sorry.

Geneva instinctually coordinates the navigation of the Nautilus as they head towards the oilrig. Both her and Kane are surprised at how they quickly adapted in their roles but Challenger states that it is a natural thing to bring up the root source of their special abilities. Challenger explains about the past and how many of the fictional characters all sprung to life. But the Ministry had sucked them all back into the book…all save Challenger and Captain Nemo. That’s how Challenger knew the Nautilus was still around.

Challenger’s story that takes place in the 1940’s. Challenger enters a secret cave. He is excited. He has heard about descendants of their former comrades, now lost to fiction and when he goes to tell Nemo, he sees Nemo on the ground. Challenger is approached by the Ministry who steps out of the shadows. They are accompanied by a Nazi. The Ministry leader tells Challenger that he is the last. Nemo is dead. But because of Challenger’s intellect, they want to keep him around…but he has to serve. Challenger reluctantly agreed. He tells the group that he had to wait for the right moment and this is the time.

The Ministry Man is on the radio reporting to someone. He just says that Eden is searching the probable locations of the Green Palace but with the high tech equipment on the jet, if any one can find it, he can.

Ryan and the girl coming out of the jungle. She doesn’t understand why she is needed but Ryan explains that each of them have a special ability. She wonders what hers could be as she experiments on people to try and change what she has become. To throw off the twisted plans of her father, Dr. Moreau who tried to blend man and beast together into a new species. When she asks Ryan who he is, he just replies that only time will tell.

Tom Eden flies over a remote area that is entrenched by cliffs. His scanners show something that shouldn’t be there but he can see nothing. He puts on special glasses and switches to a stealth mode to eliminate the radar bounceback and everything turns to night vision. A mass formation can be seen. Eden lifts up his glasses but sees nothing…putting them back, the mass reappears. He radios with a smile. He’s found it.

Shot of the oilrig as the Nautilus gets close. Geneva is congratulated for bringing them to it. Suddenly, the ship rocks as they were hit by a small torpedo. Looking out the ports, they see a mini exploratory sub that has launched a torpedo. Moriarty demands that they fire back but there are no weapons...the Nautilus worked by ramming. Another one hits them and they wonder what to do when Kane steers directly for the sub. As they wonder what he’s doing, he gets closer and then hits the electrical field. The waves of electricity roll towards the mini sub, spinning it out of control as it floats up to the surface. Edwin says that the Nautilus will take a few hours to recharge and they realize they are sitting ducks in the water. Geneva looks out as scuba divers are hooking up canisters to the air intake valves. Inside, gas pours into the Nautilus and the group succumbs…falling unconscious.

The group slowly awakens. Challenger and Kane are tied up and hanging on chains over an opening into the ocean below. Challenger looks around at the others before turning to the voice he hears. "Well, George, you got much further than we expected." Shock registers on Challenger’s face.

Standing before him is Captain Nemo. Challenger spits out that he thought he was dead.. Nemo just laughs and says that he sold Challenger out. But he realized his value and things would work out better if Challenger thought he was dead. Nemo is surprised by the Nautilus and compliments Challenger on that daring move. Challenger wonders how Nemo can hope to survive if he opens the Book of Khazar fully as he plans to do and calls Nemo insane. Nemo just laughs and says of course he is, he was written that way. Nemo reveals that when the book is open, he can always see the results and go back and fix it. Then it dawns on Challenger...the Time Machine! If Nemo has the Time Machine, he will be able to control the release of the Book of Khazars. Nemo thanks Challenger for revealing the existence of the Time Traveler as it solves all of the problems.

Nemo begins to leave and says sorry that only two can go at once but Challenger should be the first and then of course, his bastard offspring, Kane. Two guards watch the others as the Ministry Man stays behind. As Nemo leaves, the chain begins to lower.

Suddenly, the level in the Ministry Man’s hand goes in reverse, much to the shock of the Ministry Man. Then, he reels back as if he were punched but there is no one there. The guards look around and one doubles over. As he is falling, his gun is taken away…and floating in mid-air before it shoots the second guard. The first guard is then shot. Everyone is stunned and a figure begins to materialize.

It is John Hammett! He is naked and when his face comes into view, it is with a big smile. Geneva hugs him, glad to see he is still alive. Kane laughs a bit when Hammett realizes that he is naked. Edwin pulls up the Ministry Man and wants to know where Nemo is going but the Ministry Man won’t talk. They hear the sounds of a helicopter getting ready to take off and they start running up after it. As they get ready to leave, they hear a shot. The Ministry Man is falling into the water and they see Moriarty holding the gun. She says that she’ll see him in Hell as the body of the Ministry Man falls into the water. Kane yells at her and she just says that they aren’t playing some game or just characters in a story…this is real.

On the deck of the oilrig, the guards are surprised by the group as they attack. Nemo tries desperately to get himself and the wrapped up Book on the helicopter but Challenger pulls him off and they struggle. Edwin shows off his incredible strength as he grabs hold of the helicopter. Everyone is battling. Kane in knocked down and he sees the Nautilus. Summoning up his strength, he forces his thoughts to see if he can make it move and then the Nautilus jerks a bit…and slowly starts to approach.

Challenger and Nemo are fighting. It is a close fight but after awhile, it is apparent that Nemo is going to win. He holds a large metal bar over the head of Challenger but as he is about to bring it down, his face expression changes. Boring through his chest is the tip of the Nautilus shaft…

…Nemo is lifted in the air, impaled on the ramming shaft of the Nautilus.

As the Searchers regroup, Challenger sees that the book is gone…some quick checking and they find that someone else has disappeared as well. Moriarty.

Ryan and Moreau are near the Green Palace. Ryan explains that the palace is almost impossible to find in the dense jungle and secret pathways are the way. He doesn’t know how to get to it…he’s tried before. Moreau starts to look around and lifts her nose in the air…almost as if sniffing. She leads him into the forest.

London. A woman in the rain has an umbrella over her head and is carrying a wrapped up package. She enters an exclusive nightclub, cutting right to the front of the line. The guard lets her in and says its good to see her again. Obviously, someone important. As she enters, she takes down her umbrella and the manager welcomes her back. It is Moriarty. She storms into a private room. A man sits in the darkness and we see it is the Ministry Man. "See you in Hell, indeed", he laughs. She slams the book on the table and says that her plan would’ve worked in time. Now things are really mucked up. How are they going to find the Time Traveler now that Nemo is dead. Ministry Man just gestures to the man stepping out of the shadows. It is Tom Eden who says he has found the Traveler. Ministry Man introduces Tom who is also a fictional character…Robur, Master of the World.

The Time Traveler watches on his monitors and says that the attacks will come soon for he has seen the scouts. The soldier points at the monitor and says there are some people. The warriors get ready but the Time Traveler looks and says that they’re not the enemy. He murmurs that after all these years…he doesn’t believe it.

As Ryan and Moreau enter, the Time Traveler comes up to them. As Ryan and the Traveler lock eyes, Ryan dissipates as if a mirage. The Traveler explains to Moreau that Ryan was a younger incarnation of himself that was sent out in search of Moreau, or more precisely, her father. Moreau asks about the time displacement of two people sharing the same time and the Traveler says that it’s only in science fiction novels. The traveler needs Moreau for her research and understanding of the human condition mixed with other species for the future and to deal with the Morlocks. She wonders if all this was a ruse and he says no...that he is the protector of the Time Machine and if he is gone, it will stop the madness as he will take it to the future. But he can’t go unless he has the book.

The Nautilus arrives on the shore and the group begins to make their way towards the Palace. Kane feels silly about trusting Moriarty. But the big problem is how to get through the dense area. Edwin suggests that they climb the cliffs and bypass it all. Reluctantly, they agree it would be faster but how? Edwin starts to gather some equipment and says that they are to follow him. As they look up, they see Robur’s jet fly overhead.

Robur shoots missiles at some of the forest area to clear it. The palace fades in and out of view before the damage finally destroys the cloaking device and it stands in the middle of the forest…exposed.

Moriarty and the Ministry Man lead a band of men towards the Green Palace.

Edwin is pulling up the others over the cliff and the Palace is behind him. They gather and race for the Palace.

The Ministry’s men engage the Time Traveler’s soldiers. Warriors from all eras fight against the modern force. It is a bizarre battle as samurais, legionnaires, and others fight against guns but the battle is surprisingly even as the ruthlessness and skill of the ancient warriors surprise the modern troops.

Moriarty and the Ministry Man get close to the Time Traveler who has kept the soldier nearby. The soldier is killed as he tries to defend and the Traveler is saddened, even though he knew it would come to this. Moreau attacks some of the guards viscously, baring teeth and fangs as she becomes half tigress and half human. But when Moriarty puts a gun to the Traveler’s head, she calms down. Moriarty apologizes for the bad pun as she tells the traveler that comes in says times up. Moriarty pets Moreau on the head with a caustic "nice kitty." Ministry Man wants to know what she is. Moriarty knows all abut her and explains the part of the Island of Dr. Moreau.

Challenger and group arrive. They need to get inside to the Time Traveler. As Challenger motions to John, he just says he knows and starts to take his clothes off, telling the others to turn around.

Eden shows up and joins with Moriarty and they are led to the Time Machine. Moriarty and the Ministry Man lead Moreau to a small room where Moreau will be locked up. Ministry Man wants to know why they just don’t kill her and Moriarty shows him why. She pushes the Ministry Man inside the room with Moreau who is still in her vicious catlike state. Moriarty tells Ministry Man that the Time Machine will only hold two…tough luck

Moriarty kisses Eden and laughs about how no one knew that they’ve had this plan all this time together. The Traveler wonders why they would do such a thing, after all, they’re all in the same position. Moriarty is mad that he would compare her with him…he had the power and did nothing…she’ll have the power and do something with it.

As she goes to get in, she is suddenly pulled back. Confusion as Eden and Moriarty are knocked around. She realizes that its Hammett and grabs a sword from a dead warrior and swings wildly around. A blood slash appears in mid-air as oxygen hits it and then starts to flow before Hammett materializes and drops to the ground.

The group busts in, Edwin attacks Eden. Kane grabs Moriarty who quickly tells Kane that she’s glad he’s there. It is he that she wants to share everything with. He is smitten with her…just enough to be confused as she pulls out a knife but Geneva knocks it away. Kane recovers and hits Moriarty in the jaw, knocking her to the ground.

Eden is thrown against the wall by Edwin. Edwin, satisfied, turns away but Eden was only feigning unconsciousness and hits Edwin over the head. As he is about to deliver another blow, Challenger pierces Eden with a sword.

Moreau comes into the room…blood all over her as she is reverting back to human. Her appearance takes the group by surprise and gives Moriarty her chance. She hops into the time machine as Kane bangs on the door. She holds up the package with the book in it and blows him a kiss.

The Traveler pulls Kane away as the machine hums and rattles before disappearing.

Kane looks at Challenger and says that they failed. Hammett speaks up weakly and points to a package lying in the corner. Geneva gets it and it is the Book of Khazars. Edwin wonders what was in the package that Moriarty took? Kane smiles and says he hopes the Time Traveler can live without one of his hard bound copies of H.G. Well’s Outline of History.

The Time Traveler laughs and says that Moriarty will need it. After all, she will only be in the past. He explains that the machine she took was a replica that can only go back in time…he had built it over the years, because after all, he had all the time in the world.

Challenger takes the Book of Khazars and says that they have to find someplace to put the book. Edwin smiles…perhaps down to the Center of the Earth? He can sense a journey.
