COLIN SINCLAIR, THE KNIGHT: Colin lives with his mother in Cardiff, Wales. His father was murdered a year ago by a robber with
a knife, and since then Colin has been getting into more and more trouble at school for
daydreaming, which has his mother worried.
SHADOW, THE
KNIGHT’S COMPANION: Shadow is
Colin’s cat. A graymalkin, Shadow does
not talk, think human thoughts, solve mysteries, retain the secrets of Egypt, or battle the Red
Baron on his Sopwith Camel. But he is an
excellent pet.
JENNIFER, THE GUIDE: Jennifer is Pratt’s daughter. Born and raised on the plane of imaginings, she
knows a lot about the boys’ dreamland heritage. Life
has always gone the way Jennifer has planned, but all that is about to change, despite her
best efforts to the contrary.
REGINALD SPENCER III,
THE KING: Reggie isn’t the
biggest boy in his class at boarding school, but he is the biggest heartthrob, not to
mention its best athlete. Reggie is accustomed
to being the center of attention, except when it comes to his jet-set parents. Their only child always seems to be the last thing
they think about.
OLIVER STEELE, THE
BADGER: Ollie lives with his parents,
Phil and Terri. One or both of his parents are
often away because of military duty, which has made Ollie, a kid who thinks rules are
challenges to be overcome, very reliant and protective of Timmy, the one person he can
count on to always be around.
TIMMY, THE FIFTH CHILD:
Timmy and his mother, Dabney, share a duplex on GTMO with the Steeles. He has never met his father and Dabney never talks
about the man. A tenderhearted boy who loves
animals, Timmy is Dabney’s life and joy. But
life is never easy for a single mother, even a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy.
PRATT, THE TEACHER: Pratt is Jennifer’s father and the boys’
mentor in the plane of imaginings. Oh, and he
is also one of the four senators who rule Duncan, the crystal city from the boys’ dream. (It’s good work if you can get it.)
BA, THE THREAT: Ba is Algol’s ambassador to Duncan and a
conniving, ruthless sorcerer who schemes to see that Duncan is destroyed.
TAVISH LAMOND, THE
DARK APPRENTICE: A 15-year-old Celtic
warrior from the Isle of Skye. Tavish vows to
avenge his family after Vikings wiped them out in 934 AD, and Ba offers the boy the chance
to make good on that vow. But at what cost?
